From someone who has taught it and done it
Craig Migliaccio holds an HVACR Master License, is licensed by the State of New Jersey to teach HVACR, has over 16 years in the field and owns an HVAC contracting business.
Checking the charge is the job a technician does more often than almost anything else, and it is the one most of them were never taught in order. They were shown a gauge set, given a rule of thumb, and left to work the rest out on customer equipment.
This presentation covers the basics of checking the refrigerant charge of an air conditioner as a teaching unit: what you are actually measuring, and why a reading on its own does not tell you whether the charge is right.
It comes from the same instructor who wrote Refrigerant Charging and Service Procedures for Air Conditioning, so it uses the same terms and the same order as the book. If your students have the book, the deck fits straight on top of it.
Getting the charge wrong is expensive in ways a trainee does not see yet:
- A unit left overcharged or undercharged comes back as a callback, on your labor
- Refrigerant added to a system that did not need it is money vented into a problem
- A compressor that fails early rarely gets blamed on the charge check that caused it
- A tech who cannot explain the reading cannot explain the invoice to the customer either
Which is why it is worth a dedicated lesson rather than ten minutes at the end of another one.

One topic, taught in the right order.
A narrow deck beats a broad one here. Instead of touching charging inside a general air conditioning overview, this one stays on the subject long enough for it to land, which is what students need before they are turned loose with a set of gauges.
See the book behind itSlides first, gauges second.
Teach the reasoning on the screen, then put a manifold in their hands and have them do it. Keep the P/T Chart and the HVAC calculators up during the lab so the numbers they read on the screen are the numbers they read on the equipment.

You do not have to rebuild a syllabus around it. It is a single unit on charge checking that slots into an existing HVACR course, an apprenticeship block or a new-hire week at a contracting company.

"I have spent many years attending the finest courses and colleges to perfect my trade, however you are never too old to pick up new information and tips from other tradesmen. After scouring through literally thousands of YouTube videos, I came across AC Service Tech. I was astounded by the professionalism of this channel and the gentleman that runs it, and if you are a perfectionist, you can spot another perfectionist! I can't help thinking 'If I had my time again, I would love to have been taught by this guy'. Thank you for being an awesome resource."— Stuart B., England, UK
Questions before you order
Is anything shipped?
No. This is a digital download and no shipping is charged. You receive access to the file after checkout.
What exactly is included?
A PowerPoint presentation on the basics of checking the refrigerant charge of an air conditioner. If you want the contents confirmed before ordering, email info@acservicetech.com.
How is this different from the refrigeration cycle presentations?
The cycle decks explain how the system works. This one is about the service task: checking whether the charge in an air conditioner is correct. They are sold separately and work well in sequence, cycle first.
Can I edit it to fit my course?
Yes. It is a PowerPoint file, so you can cut, reorder or add slides.
Does it replace the book?
No. The book carries the full procedures and the troubleshooting sequences; the deck is the classroom front end for one of those topics. Students still need the book for the detail.
I did not get my download link.
Check your spam folder and the email address on the order. If it still has not arrived, email info@acservicetech.com with your order number and we will resend access.
