Licensed to teach the trade

The State of New Jersey licenses Craig Migliaccio to teach HVACR, Sheet Metal and Building Maintenance. He taught classes for years before writing any of this down.

This is the study pair rather than the reference pair. It suits an apprentice working through charging for the first time, a tech preparing for a test, or anyone who has read enough HVAC books to know that reading is where it starts and not where it ends.

It also suits instructors. Craig taught high school and adult HVACR classes, and the Workbook is built the way a class is built: a chapter, then questions on that chapter, then the gaps you did not know you had.

Work one chapter at a time, then answer the matching questions before moving on. There are over 1,600 questions in six different question types, so the same topic gets asked in more than one shape and you cannot pass it by recognising a sentence.

The subjects you cover:

  • Total Superheat and Total Subcooling, and which metering device calls for which
  • The total weight charging method, including refrigerant per foot of line set
  • Recovery, evacuation and the vacuum procedure
  • Leak detection methods and pressure testing limits
  • A2L refrigerants, R-32 and R-454B, with the tools and handling they require
  • Troubleshooting sequences and the readings behind each fault

Free shipping within the USA. Orders normally leave within one to two business days. Returns are accepted within 30 days in resalable condition; the full terms are on the refund policy page.

Find the gaps before the jobsite does.

A book you have read feels like a book you know. The Workbook settles it: over 1,600 questions in six formats, which is enough repetition in enough different shapes that a weak spot has nowhere to hide. Every one you get wrong now is one you are not getting wrong on a call.

See what is in the A/C book

Written in the order the job happens.

Plenty of HVAC books explain a topic and leave you to work out the sequence. This one is the sequence: what to measure, where to put the probe, what the number means, and what to do about it. The Workbook then asks you those same steps back in a different order, which is how the job asks them.

Works as a course, not just a book.

If you are training somebody, or training yourself with nobody checking, the pair gives you the structure you would otherwise have to invent: material, questions, and a clear answer on whether it stuck. Keep the P/T chart and the calculators open alongside it.

What techs say

From AC Service Tech readers and viewers.

★★★★★

"I have spent many years attending the finest courses and colleges to perfect my trade, however you are never too old to pick up new information and tips from other tradesmen. After scouring through literally thousands of YouTube videos, I came across AC Service Tech. I was astounded by the professionalism of this channel and the gentleman that runs it, and if you are a perfectionist, you can spot another perfectionist! I can't help thinking 'If I had my time again, I would love to have been taught by this guy'. Thank you for being an awesome resource."
